#3146 RE: Bob Zumbrunnen #3145

I don't know if I posted this previously or not,

But I recently bought a '96 Saturn for $100.

The deal was, that the guy that had it, bought it from a friend of mine and before he could get it paid for, got hit from the rear and was driven under a rollback. The rollback took it to my friends home.

Then the guy that was driving it got more for it than he owed my friend for it, so my friend ended up with it again, after the buyer got paid buy the insurance company, and paid my friend what he owed him.

Anyone confused yet?

Anyway,

We were having a cookout over here one night and the two guys involved were over here talking about the car and what they were going to do with it.

They were going to donate the car to the Salvation Army for a tax writeoff.

I offered them $100 for it and the deal was done.

Well,

The car sat at my friends house for several months because it wasn't running right and I hadn't had the time or motivation to go over and screw with it.

But I did at least buy a service manual for it.

I got a call from my friend tonight when I got home and he told me that he had to get the car moved tonight or tomorrow because the county was on him for having an unlicensed car in his yard for so long.

I told him I was going to get a can of ether and come over and try to get it running so we could drive it the short distance to my house.

When I got there, we shot the intake with some ether and immediately got a loud backfire.

I told him we had a timing problem.

(The coil pack had recently been replaced)

I got my service manual and began looking for a firing sequence and how the coil pack should be wired.

Nothing.

But I did find one fairly good picture of the engine and how the spark plug wires should be run.

I guess it's too late to make a long story short.

Anyway,

When the new coil pack had been installed the plug wires were not hooked up correctly.

We fixed it and the car runs like a champ.

We drove the car home with no problem.

I got a nice running 96 Saturn with a slightly damaged hood for $100.

What a nice Xmas present.

LOL

Have fun,
Phil
