I follow the 'buzz' - the tickers where everyone think it goes to the moon - look at the psychology of other players - the more they dream and have greed - the better - especially promos are great this way - not a good idea to play stuff where the competition is stiff - some big board stocks have good active traders.

FNMA - ACA$ - TSL$ - (some APS / VM promos) - recently I played.

I also scan sometimes, but mostly hard to find good plays that way. What parameters do you use ? I like a high beta value and lots of dollar volume

FINVIZ - http://finviz.com - is the most comprehensive free stock screener out there. Some stocks like FNMA and FMCC are not listed but you have over 6429 others.

You can screen stocks singly or in combination using descriptive, fundamental and technical criteria.

For volatility, you can use criteria such as high volatility, high betas, large gaps, large change from open, etc.

You can view the results in various tables. There are also useful displays.

Snapshot allows you to review the result if you are unfamiliar with the company. With Snapshot (far right side), you can view charts, fundamentals, latest news, description of the company and recent insider trading in a neat package.

You also can view charts alone for quick comparisons, basic data, a ticker heat chart (gain and loss) and TA.

Useful.
