Paul, I've said it before and I'll say it again. Megahertz is not the same as equivalency ratings. Intel can clock their CPUs as high as they want and still put that number next to the name. What does it mean? Why, the clock frequency, of course. AMD uses QuantiSpeed, which says that their model numbers mean performance. So when they release a 3000+ that's slower than a 2800+, it's a lie. What can I say? It's marketing.

As for the issue that AMD zealots are often obsessed with - the poor performance of Willamette when it was released - you can see the end result in several modern tests, which show that even the slow Willamette is capable of outperforming the ancient Pentium III.
