austin, Why do you say that???? Just because the movie is going to be shown again in an other showing/competition, does not mean that it will not be sold by then.

I just touched base with the company and here are a few comments on the movie:

1. They have had offers but are waiting for some large distributors to weigh in with their offers. At least one of the current offers received is deemed acceptable. My guess is that NVEI is trying to get either more money up front or perhaps even an outright sale of the film. The negotiations are somewhat complicated in that the money up front varies, release locations vary, some also want to have DVD/VHS rights, others want TV rights, etc. None of this has anything to do with the festival. Which leads to the second point...

2. If they get the right offer before the festival they will make the deal. Right now they're waiting on some of the big boys who have told them they will definitely be making offers. Will these offers be better, the same or worse than the ones they have received? Who knows? But why accept an offer if someone bigger and better has said they will make another offer? This benefits all of us.

3. The festival invitation came amid all the negotiations. The company was invited and viewed it rightly as a great honor. So they said yes. But this has nothing to do with the current negotiations with the distributors. The festival invitation fell into their laps. Now, of course there is the chance that if they have not finalized a deal by the festival that the greater exposure of the movie to other distributors, film critics, etc at the festival will increase the eventual offers, but at this point they aren't really waiting for that. If the right deal comes before the festival they will say yes.

Remember the more money they can get up front (or even an outright sale) the better off we will be for fueling the tech and making the company stronger, so it makes sense to do this right.
