Red Herring lists 6 Israelis among 100 best smallcaps
Ooops to my previous 5 only

Technology magazine Red Herring Red Herring has six Israeli companies on its list of the 100 most promising smallcaps. All six are listed on Nasdaq.

The six are:

Given Imaging (TASE, Nasdaq: GIVN)

Elbit Systems (Nasdaq: ESLT)

Nice Systems (NASDAQ: NICE)

Orbotech (Nasdaq: ORBK)

Retalix (Nasdaq: RTLX)

And Ulticom (Nasdaq: ULCM).

This is the first time Red Herring has compiled a list of smallcap companies, which are worth between $300 million to a billion dollars on the market.

The magazine staff, headed by editor Joel Dreyfuss, looked at more than 2,500 publicly traded companies before choosing the top 100. Dreyfuss explained that smallcaps are essentially startups that took the step forward of floating stock.

That is not actually a description that suits the Israeli companies, but one has to factor in the difference between how Israelis view a company like Nice, and how Americans view it. Here it's a big company that will be joining the TA-25 index on its next update in mid -January. Its market cap is almost a billion dollars. It's a giant. There, it's a minnow.

Red Herring said the picks have innovative technology and smart business models that can propel them to the next stage. They have in fact the most promising technology on the smallcap list, Dreyfuss said.
