BP helped write the terms if the settlement. The terms make it clear: anybody who fits a mathematical formula created by BP can get paid. There's no hope for them to cry foul and get out if their own settlement.
Either they are morons who miscalculated or theyre just having crocodile tears, as this was fully internally calculated by them, but they are pretending to cry foul as a calculated business strategy.
