#18128 RE: Shail #18125

Yeah Shail,
You have a justifiable concern if we're limited to only the original type of Integrated Circuits (ICs) mandated by the DLA 9 months ago. I can't cite the FSCM class off the top of my head right now, I know Wishful, 1 Mill, Johnsyn and a host of others on this board can.

I also have to give the disclaimer I'm irrationally exuberant on this company, and thinking it has the potential of an Apple or Google lala palooza (doesn't seem to have a correct spelling on that).

Search this board for posts by Dan Dietz, probably back around October. Vice President of Rochester Electronics, a certified distributor of Original Component Manufactured (OCM) products. You'll get the industry's initial take on this. VIOLENTLY OPPOSED. And we got it directly, in no uncertain verbiage.

Back then, Dietz will point out the DLA doesn't buy that many of the microprocessors and field programmable gate array type ICs held under the original mandate. I work for Lockheed, on component failure issues we have we replace the whole module now. And these modules have failed due to substandard passive components (resistors, capacitors, inductors) when the money was spent on ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS.

Root cause analysis costs the military contractor a whopping ass butt load that's nothing compared to qualifying new circuit boards or designs, and upgrading a fleet of systems to it.

The mandate seems to be moving toward certifying the whole module/ circuit board, assembly and system now. Last quarter's conference brought news that the DNA taggant would survive in a solder joint. This is incredible traceability to me.

I've been in the military-industrial complex a long time now, closer to 40 years than I want to admit). The Department of Defense efforts are the REASON for aerospace and the digital age. Even social issues. Started arming African Americans before my time in Korea, kept that going in Vietnam, Colin Powell, Barack Obama, a black middle class all owe a tribute to the DoD. Gays in the military, going main stream.

I get crazy, you may notice, but I think everyone is going to follow the lead set by the DLA because of the established track record. I think the effort by Applied DNA Sciences on getting the DoD set up is critical to that.

Now you know why I'm long
Sorry for the book.
