If it's a rumor than that's probably all it is. Adding a fourth HTT link takes a whole new design cycle, and AMD can't spare the engineers just for just a single custom design win. My guess is that Sandia will be making custom high bandwidth cable connections based on HTT to cluster a whole bunch of 2-way or 4-way systems together. It's supposed to be several thousand processors, right? You simply can't do it without clustering, and why cluster a thousand 4-way computers when you can do two thousand 2-way computers, hypothetically? Normally, I'd say go with the former, but in AMD's case, the schedule and cost mechanics might drive for the latter.
