The ground was worked and improved, for years. Most of the potato-and-bigger rocks are already out, the clay-soil modifyed by adding sand, loam, compost and other vegtable-matter...So it breaks up fairly easy. Since I was Hobbled-up, I'd go out as soon as I could, and do like maybe one or two rows across the narrow dimention...little-bit here, little-bit there, start the seeds, and a few plants that might take a tiny-light frost...and by the time all danger of frost was past, Good to go.
