You are correct, the TA will not give SS info to shareholders, however the TA does have the official SS info, it is current daily and available to certain people.
If AB is who he says he is, the TA will give the SS to him,
He either is not who he says he is or he has not tried to call.
Not a big deal.

I don't think that Transfer Agents give share counts to shareholders, and the only "official" share numbers are those released by the company.

That's because float, Authorized and Outstanding Shares are material information that could effect a stock's price, and that info will only come from the company in its official press releases or filings, in order to prevent selective disclosure violations.

For Brochstein to make educated guesses isn't a big deal.
