I believe the patents have merit in the U.S. and elsewhere. However, I also believe that big money and beltway bandit lobbyist are unscrupulous and can be bought and paid for by using campaign contributions as a weapon to get just about anythign for their clients. I know the USPTO is not immune to "pressure" and have seen patents overturned on appeal when big money is involved. I have also seen them hold up against challenge. One of my other holdings SYNM is in the middle of such a patent challenge and had won the case, only to have it once again challenged on appeal and the whole thing was again stayed by the USPTO. These challenges are costly and can be never ending. So, I say again, they are not to be taken lightly. The overseas rights are probably immune from our tainted system.
