Why would I be forced to be long in a stock I want to short ? Talk about a racket....

Naked shorting is illegal...

I think what your broker has been doing to you for the last ten years is illegal too...

If you have a margin account you can borrow shares of most anything without having to hold them.
I short big board stocks from time to time but options are much safer than being outright short....

I would never attempt to short a penny stock because the fees are astronomical. But there are people with way more cajones and money than me that do regularly.
