Higher interest rates would cause the sovereign debt to explode higher. The combination of increased interest on the debt and increasing debt due to an economic slowdown would be devastating. And I do expect higher rates as the global economy goes into recession simply because the increasing sovereign debt will mean that bond buyers will demand higher rates for the added risk. Rates are currently artificially low.
