company says ban won't affect them because they are going to be exporting an upgraded concentrate that will be processed on site. Who knows but Lundin and Freidman play in dangerous neighborhoods and seem to do well. Biggest issue for me is probably the non producer status. Haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I can remember several instances over the years when the DRC has announced similar measures re copper but they have all come to nothing in the end. I expect the same to happen this time. The governor of Katanga province has already announced he will not enforce any such measure.

Ivanplats is asserting that even if this measure went through it wouldn't affect them because they are planning to build the DRC's first smelter.

P.S. I heartily support the recommendation upthread of RIO, a very well run comapny with excellent management and a great deposit. I wouldn't be surprised to see them sell La Arena as it transitions to being a copper mine. They have recently investing in JVs with several smaller companies on prospective deposits in peru.
