Often wonder the same, like now .79, you would think the seller would ask for at least .80? Something fishy around here. Oh well, at least we are closer to the .80's than .50's now.

A bid can be higher than the ask if one of the trades has the 'all or none' condition on the trade, or a 'minimum qty' on a trade.

Traders do not want to sell small quantities of shares where the cost of the fees effect the per share cost.

In Schwab, the all or none and minimum qty options are hidden, but I do have them to use.

traders can use these options to test the market by moving the (bid/ask) up or down with risking a small transaction.
