Usually after hours the bid/ask spread will widen overnight. It should tighten back up before open tomorrow

MMs will either buy a stock, sell it or both. Not all are always on both the bid and ask. You buy at the ask from an MM, and can sell at bid to another (or the same) MM. They make the difference on the spread.

Sometimes on low volume stocks you might get filled on a buy order at the bid, but not usually when the volume is higher.
