IMHO, it's hard to blame the company solely for the disaster the stock has become to many. Those who bought in years ago have had ample opportunities to get out over the last few years at a ridiculously high market cap. Those that bought in during the ridiculously high market cap are hard pressed to say they didn't realize it might all be smoke and mirrors. Many of us have been saying that for years and the actions of the company have strengthened that POV time and time again.
That's not to suggest that pump and dump operators should be given a free pass and held blameless, but I find sympathy for those who lost out much easier to come by in a situation like Madoff, where there was little to indicate the massive risk, than in MDMN, where there was such little likelihood of anything BUT large losses.
