"I prefer linked-backed reality to never-a-link made-up ragger fairy tales."
In this case you linked back to a poster who reported that he received an email from an unnamed party at JBI. His post indicated:
"I was told that Ragger tail comprises 20% or less of the total plastic waste stream generated by a plant."
"The majority of plastic comes from a press and is separate from the ragger."
One might choose to accept those representations as accurate.
Or, one might find the words of the RKT VP that signed the Agreement to be more reliable.
A poster asked, among other things:
"I am trying to understand the plastic waste that is generated by RKT processes and the plastic waste that RKT has been landfilling on RKT properties.
I am familiar with raggertail from the cardboard recycling process. How much of the plastic waste generated by RKT processes is in this form?
Could you please describe any RKT processes that result in a "pure" plastic waste stream?"
John Stakel, VP/Treasurer of RockTenn's response was quoted verbatim:
"RockTenn paper mills recycle approximately 3.5 million tons of recovered paper per year, mostly old corrugated containers (OCC). OCC contains varying amounts of polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene and other plastics due to laminations, inserts and tape used in the boxes. Our recycling processes generally separate large pieces of plastic and metal wires from the re-pulping operation using a “ragger tail”. The ragger tail is only cut in 10- to 20-feet lengths before disposal. The rest of the plastic is generally removed in pulper de-trashing and coarse screening. The rejects from the latter two operations are mostly clean plastic that is dewatered before disposal. Typically our mills generate 30 to 40 dry pounds each of ragger tail and miscellaneous plastic rejects per ton of OCC recycled. Currently some of our mills dispose these materials through third parties, while others have on-site monofills."
The highlighted section of the RockTenn VP's response is obviously not consistent with the reported quotes from JBI as provided by your linked quotes.
"Ragger tail comprises 20% or less of the total plastic waste stream generated by a plant" is not at all the same as "our mills generate 30 to 40 dry pounds each of ragger tail and miscellaneous plastic rejects per ton of OCC recycled".
I know which one I'm inclined to believe.
"linked-backed reality"?
Linking to a post that provides second hand, unverified information may qualify as linked back, but it doesn't serve to confirm that it's reality.
