#1209 RE: Elmer Phud #1205

What to do with 50%? Anything, but do something.

For example, make a small price war. Athlon XP 2600 ($210) and Barton 2800 ($350) are at manufacturing sweetspot. Athlon XP sales sweetspot is 2400 in the performance segment so far. I.e. most of chips with speed below 2600 are just underclocked and sold in volume. At the same time Intel has most of it's performance chips in 2.2 - 2.6 range. And as Intel is defining the market, I just guess that their manufacturing sweetspot is at 2.53 Mhz. Why don't AMD try to move the market to define 2600 as a performance sweetspot? Volumes are not so big, moving the market is possible. Price 2600 at $190 (I mean market prices, not official) and watch how OEM's will start to use it as a primary offering. There is no need to drop the price of 2400, just decrease the output.
