Resolute late last year struck a deal to spend $21m on a 19.9 per cent stake in Noble Mineral Resources, which had been struggling through the commissioning of its Bibyani gold mine in Ghana. Resolute also issued a $85m convertible note that could see it substantially increase its stake in Noble in the future.

Mr Sullivan said that while Noble was still running Bibyani, Resolute was studying the project and assessing the best course of action for the mine.
