Excellent credentials!

The issue is now granularity of the FOV, both horizontal and vertical. Granularity has to do with the spacing of the "gaps" in the picket fence, or "holes" in the FOV that enable obstacles to hit you since too small to see. Or like having the right hand side of the road well lit, but the left side not at all. Natch you get clobbered by something from the left!

Then you have update rate for those vision systems. Good ones are 50ms for the entire FOV, vert and horiz. Most are not that good and they are the size of a coffee can and weigh several pounds.

Sorry, but a little bitty UAV with a 2 pound payload ain't gonna carry 8-10 lbs, 3 or 4 times to get sufficient vert and horiz FOV-

Ain't simple at all!

MIT students did it in their lab with pretty basic components, I imaging it's not really that hard.
