<< YMB posted they were hearing $700-$1.3 billion range >>

Just to inject a little reality into this topic:

1) In the history of patent infringement disputes, very few actual jury awards have come in the range quoted above. The number of agreed upon settlements that are $700 million or greater are almost non-existent.

2) the monetary damages awarded by the jury was somewhere around $32 million, give or take.

3) Less than $16 million of the total award was directly attributed to Google.

4) Companies do not willingly settle patent infringement disputes post-verdict to the tune of 20 or 40 or 50 or 100 times the amount of the jury award.

I realize there is more involved here than past damages (which have been severely crippled by the Laches ruling). There is a potential royalty rate and a few years of revenue to recover. And that's why I believe a realistic settlement number, IF there is a settlement, would be somewhere around $75 - $125 million.

Last i heard was 650 million was offered and vrng rejected, they had a conference call but it had nothing to do with a settlement. But i do think the start talks again on the 21st after jj rules on motions. He will then set date for final ruling i believe it will be before the 28th. So limited window for goog. Think the offer will be 700 million plus cost, with 100 million for past damages. Total around 800-820 million i believe this is close. Might be more.
