Tinroad, navigating with the Zen is easy. You can search for and play music in many ways. From the Main Menu you can Select Music Library or Find Music. Then you choose to Artist, Album, Genre, Songs. Then it gives you a list of whatever you selected, alphabetically. The scroller is speed sensitive too so if you have 100 artists on the player you can get to the one you want really quickly.
What you were referring to is the "Find Music" function. For instance if you want to hear the Song "Strawberry Hill" you go to Find Music, Select Song, the it gives you the whole list of songs. You can then enter the first few letters of the song name using the scroller and an alphanumeric character popup box. Enter "Str" and it will send you right to that song. Damn nice feature.
So, if you understand all this, you see how limited the Odyssey is in comparison. It can't search or list songs by Artist, Album, Genre, Title, Composer, etc.. Like iPod, Zen and the rest. All you can do is navigate around directories. It's so basic it feels crippled next to the other players. So that's why I've made a big deal about it. At least a dozen people I've talked to bought another player just on this factor alone.
