Abuse has been going on for millennium.

The answer is that the Church is a man made institution.

Catholics are never allowed to divorce.
Divorce between two Catholics voids membership.
They can only be reinstated into the faith with a contribution to the church.

If the Bishop of your province accepts your contribution then you can be Catholic again.

i met a French Canadian on an oil rig once who hated Catholics with a venom i hadn't felt before .. why such a profound personal hate?, i asked .. he told me his mother had 7 children .. or was it 8? .. that she was having difficulty coping and that their Catholic priest visited continuously urging her to have more .. the old guys are more interested in gaining more believers .. and it's cheaper for them if they come from large Catholic families .. than they are in the welfare of the young they already have ..
