I don't think so.

Salaries are a cost of doing business and businesses may not initially make a profit, but that doesn't preclude the employees from taking compensation. There is a cost for creating innovation and it is borne in front of sales and profits, but when it all clicks...it invevitably gets reduced to a line item in a filing
and everyone forgets the effort it took to do something new when sales and profits are being booked.
