I'm sure AMD got paid for them. Their chips aren't free.

I didn't say they were free. I just think it's an assumption on your part that they're selling them at a profit. They may not be. AMD has given their parts away in the past in an effort to spark interest. I don't think they're giving them away this time but there's no assurance they're making any money whatsoever on them. They may simply be clearing inventory or dumping parts they are contractually obligated to buy from GLF. Selling brown bananas at a loss is better than letting them rot on the shelf.
