Well actually, you DID want to sell, or you wouldn't have placed the stop order. I personally stay away from that approach for just this reason.

Live and learn I guess, a stop loss will not help in-case of a major dump anyways which might fill your order far below your trigger price.

You do realize that market makers can see all of the sell stops up and down?
