Well under this scenario, stock A and Stock B were both your existing picks. You sell both. With stock A proceeds you can buy any stock with no restrictions of any stock you currently don't own in your imaginary portfolio. Since in this example B was sold allready you don't own it hence you can buy it with stock A proceeds. Hope this helps.
