I think your post may remind many here about the events leading up to K7 and K8. We didn't really know much until the official release was near the zero hour. That was even with Jerry at the helm who rarely was at a loss for words and loved to scare the hell out of Intel at any turn. I think most of us were impressed with the results of k7 and k8.
Conversely I remember that when AMD did blab about the next architecture it was a disappointing variation on a theme or beating of a dead horse (K6, K6II, K6III...)
I can't say that I'm not nervous when my money is riding on conjecture and hope with no info on K10, but when looking at the recent past, AMD has done pretty well on the design side of the house.
