It appears that anyone who was in Miami or north of there recieved the brunt of the storms wind damage. Short spurts of wind seems to do little damage but when it is sustained then everything begins to crumble.
I know when we had a hurricane come through here(virginia beach) a couple of years back several of us were outside and didn't think too much of it until the trees started to crack and then some tree tops started flying by...thats when we realized it was going to be much worse than what we thought.
Two weeks without power is a good way to learn appreciation for what a hurrincane can deliver. Of course when you have a very big tree get popped into pieces and then thrown down on the roof of your house blowing though the roof and several windows and nocking the house out of pumb well you can imagine the rest.
To say the least it was a lot more work than we all realized it would be.
