Intel stated this in the CC...
They think their customers built up an extra $100M of inventory in Q3, and will burn that off in Q4. The analysts were expecting Q4 to be "seasonal" over Q3, but the Intel Q4 forecast came in at about $200M under that number. The reason is that Q3 was $100M over the "seasonal" baseline, and that $100M will be consumed in Q4 rather than additional orders. The PC purchases by consumers is expected to follow seasonal patterns. It is kinda' confusing, so hope it made sense. At any rate, I believe this was the main reason for the INTC stock drop after the earnings announcement.
