I'm a long time lurker. I'm curious how you came to that conclusion.

I like the PHR-space as a potential growth area, but I too took a look at the MMR Global patents. They seem like pretty weak sauce to me.

Almost all of them require a fax, fax server, private phone number, or something of the sort. That makes almost all of those claims valueless in my eyes. That certainly isn't going to meet the Download/Transmit requirements of Meaningful Use Stage 2.

What's more, as I understand it, this industry uses something called a continuity of care document (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continuity_of_Care_Document) to exchange electronic health records. This structured document format seems to be the antithesis of the "image format" claimed by these patents.

I also see lots of posts here about big health care provider patient portals. The problem for me is that MMRF's patents don't go into that space either since most of those are "tethered" to the provider's database and don't operate independently (required by the claims of the patents).

For all of these reasons, it suggests to me that the patents aren't particularly valuable.

I'd love to hear other people's thoughts.
