Most conservatives here have no clue about the working poor. Look at Conix and my suggestion that all Walmart would need to do would be to raise their prices 5% and they could increase at a minimum all workers salaries by 30%. Her brain could not understand these simple mathematical concepts. In fact it's closer to 40% when one understands that the store managers and above would not need to participate as they are well above the poverty level.
Conservatives have always had a disdain for the poor as they have always thought they were better than them. That's why they welcome bigots into the conservative Republican party now because with their Southern Strategy being so successful they are now stuck with those people. People who as a habit think it's perfectly reasonable to take advantage of another person's struggles while they also wallow in their own ineptitude and ignorance.
