#908 RE: bar1080 #906

OK, let me try to answer, you have a question 1, but nothing else numbered, so I'm going to have to make some assumptions.

Question #1: Of what use is your info about special dividends?

Well first off, it is not MY info. I came across this board by chance and liked some of the stuff I saw from zebra. In fact, I have my own dividend board if you'd like to stop by and analyze and critique it. However, Obviously, knowing the info before the news release would be preferable. If I truly had the gumption to track down companies that were cash heavy right now, I'd guess most would be good prospects, but I'm not motivated enough to do this, so I watch this board.
Due to zebra, I have bought three stocks in decent quantities.
CCMP, KDN, and BSET. I bought all three prior to the big dividend payout.
$CCMP worked very well. Right after the dividend was paid, the stock moved back up nicely. It recovered $5 of it's $15 cash dividend rather quickly and I took my money and ran (btw, this is only to be used in qualified accounts as the taxes would make most of it moot).
$KDN, I was not as fortunate, although it still pays about a 3.75% dividend on its own. It paid a one time $10.50, but after it paid it did not react well. I sold off half my shares and still hold half.
$BSET was the most recent. It paid $1.25 as a special dividend and has recovered quite well since, and I still own all my shares.
The key is in not buying every one of these stocks, but to do your homework to discover which companies are truly growth worthy.

You keep bringing up $AOD as if this is the holy grail of bad stocks. As it happens, I did buy a little bit of this stock back in '08, and sold in early '10. Not the first high dividend company to be paying out eqity over dividends. I would have to agree they have underperformed.

Now, once more to my question to you. You have slammed your share of stocks, but as of yet not recommended a single one you'd buy. I understand you like indexes and ETF's, but surely you consider some stocks worth owning. I'd rather see something positive from you. BTW, we can always go on a tear of ETFs that have drastically underperformed. I own a couple of them. I believe ETFs are a far greater scam than some of the stocks you complain about.
