StormKing Reply: As I understand it, A company has their own app (or website) where developers (i.e. MRNJ) can offer their own app to be given away (for free) to random winners of a selected contest. MRNJ would probably pay some sort of money to the contest company to feature the app in such a contest, but MRNJ makes money as the winners use the app and MRNJ gets iAD revenue, plus that user will probably accept push notifications (which open them up to other MRNJ apps), plus that user may eventually buy the in-apps....so in the end, MRNJ probably makes out pretty good on the contest deal.
I think it is a great idea the company came up with. I am kicking myself for not suggesting it as I was aware of such contest-type companies. Great additional marketing initiative by MRNJ....more users so critical now as we see the ongoing impact of push..and eventually auto-post....on company apps.
I hope this helps, I need to do more research on it before I can speak any more intelligently about it.
