I used to haul potash out of New Mexico into Texas in the early 80s - it was being use to make hydrochloric acid to was sold to the oil field fracing and acidizing companies - the by product was fertilizer mountains of it and they had a buyer for every ton of it they produced - of course potash is used in foods pharmacueticals, water softners and in animal feeds - China is a large buyer of potash from the US. Where conditions permit, potash is used as a road de-icer. Although the melting power of potash is not as great as salt, potash is gaining acceptance as an environmentally friendly alternative.Potash has three main uses: fertilizer, livestock feed supplements and industrial processes. 95% of world's potash is used in fertilizers. Potash is a key ingredient in fertilizers that enhance water retention of plants, increases crop yields and plants' disease resistance. In feed supplements, the key function of potash is to contribute to animal growth and milk production. Potash is also used to produce glass, ceramics, soaps etc.
