Hi Toof and Conrad, The MA buy filters perform the same function as the Ocroft filter, but I prefer his filter for two reasons:
1. with MA you have to decide what moving averages to use and depending on these you get different strengths of filter and different results

2. practially speaking to use MA I would have to view the chart for each stock and then go back to my spreadsheet. With the Ocroft method I'm just looking at the spreadsheet, which speeds up the process.

The filter is double edged as Toof noted, with large enough drop it helps and with a small drop in the stock it hurts by blocking useful trades. Nevertheless if you AIM individual stocks it does help to deal with the big problem of a stock that takes a big dive. It's another tool to deal with that.

Hi Conrad
"In all the discussions on Oroft's Method I have not grasped how it is essentially different from a MACRO Filter."

There is no difference. So, why introduce an outside source that already exist in the system that you are using.
The delayed filter that I am talking about already exist in the market order column of the AIM design. It can be demonstrated to to be just as effective as any introduced outside MACRO Filter.

"but long before that for example the MACRO Filter of Don Carlson that was proposed many years ago has been discussed as well here"

I found Tom's site in 2010.I think the MACRO Filter discussion stared in 2002.
My question, are their any aimers using the MACRO Filter technique in real time?
If they are out there, I sure would love for them to introduce some examples of how it works in real time. This way a comparision can be made.
Just A note, if I were to introduce any kind of TA crossover, it would be the MACD below center crossover.

"one can play with different MA's and achieve a very similar effect as Ocroft achieves."

If I am achieving an X result from the aim design; why would I, or anyone, play with different MA's to achieve the same or similar X result? That sound like a waste of time and energy.
If the MA's produced a superior result that would be different. However, I don't think that fact can be demonstrated.
