Texas State has a reputation as being a party school, the difference today is the Texas top 10% rule.. the top 10% now fill up UT and A&M and it has caused a shift in school ratings in Texas, 3rd tier schools have become 2nd tier, 2nd tier get first tier kids etc. Texas State was a 3rd tier school that moved up to a 2nd tiered school, so less partying (More serious student??) Anyway, I read all this in Texas Monthly Magazine last year... the 10% rule has also brought down UT and A&M's national recognition as less out of state kids, out of country kids can attend now.

(I'm not a fan of the top 10% rule, but my other half is).

25 years ago the drinking age was 18 in Texas, Houston to Dallas was considered a 1 6-pack drive, Houston to El Paso was at least a case (drinking beer while driving was not illegal, only drinking too much while driving).
WRT A&M, all those liberal arts and education majors have to come from somewhere. My freshman Electrical Engineering class at A&M was about 1200 students, 75 graduated, about 1/2 of those in 4 years with no summer school.
