To add a little more fuel to the w-9 fire...
I just got off the phone with Shareowner Services and asked them why my w-9 was returned as a common shareholder.
answer: if your shares are held with a brokerage firm (mine is Zecco), there is no need to send in a w-9. The request for a w-9 was only for common & prefs shareholders that actually have/had their shares held by "computershare shareowner services" LLC.
this company, computershare shareowner services, used to be owned by BNYM...and I believe was set up to hold shares of employee stock options and such.
I chewed their butt for not making the request letters more clear about this...sure did cause a lot of stamps to be used by folks like us. Oh well the USPO needs the bucks.
