Brilliant, yes.

But it does not address the issue of our security and the democratization, education and enlightenment of those in the entire region.

Not likely they'll respect us (or like us) through any means other than force (which is all they seem to understand).

Seems to me that the vast majority in the region want to push Israel into the sea and are committed to the death of America and the west.

Doesn't sound to me like appeasement is the ticket.

another short story of truth...

I'am sure we all experienced a completion of a difficult task,
and then as we step back to view our work and phrase ourselves
we realize that the means to the end was just one of many available,
and the one we took was on the complex side as we now view
another solution to the same end, that being quick & simple
versus the long hard troubled road we choose.

Go back to the Guld War when the first prez bush told Iraq
to withdraw from Kuwait, and now imagine that Iraq's troops did
withdraw from Kuwait City and pulled back to the neutral zone,
or whatever land area was claimed by Iraq as be stolden by Kuwait.

If done the United States could NOT have launched the war
since it was based on the liberation of Kuwait's populace,
not disputed land of oil fields that border Iraq & Kuwait.

If done, no USA attacks into Iraq, and Iraq would have "sat" upon
that land of oil and taken it to the UN, of which today it would still
be under discussion while Iraq continued untouched in military
and ability to sell its oil.

If done, Iraq would now be a Middle East Super Power without any
powerful economy except its oil riches, and weapons wise be equal to
that of Israel with the help of Russia, France etc to arm it.

If done that way Israel, would have stood silent and waited ???

or,
Iraq blew it big time as its objective was the oil fields of Kuwait
that were challenged as belonging to Iraq.
or,
money from sale of oil
but
Question to now ask.
"Did Iraq learn a lesson?"
Answer: Yes, the hard way for them.
so,
My opinion is that Iraq will do what they wished they did last time.
That being remove the reason the United States gives to invade Iraq.
or,
Iraq president Saddam will announce that "For the compassion
and safety he has for his people he will step down as president
and allow free elections to take place immediately with the USA
former president Jimmy Carter to have his Carter Institute supervise.
so,
- Saddam remains in Iraq
- UN inspectors return with Iraq doing a full disclosure
- the Iraq populace elect a USSR to Russia new government
or,
my view is that this will not be in the best interest of planet Earth
