"crossing the chasm" is a term famed VC Geoffrey Moore uses quite often and is a "buzz phrase" for early stage investors. It means a gap that exists between the early adopters of any technology and the mass market.
The fact that Steve said G2 was crossing the chasm means he feels pretty good that G2 is starting to make the leap.
