The GPS will drain your battery, not the app.
My phone isn't an expensive phone, it's an Android (Sprint) and works great. If you are worried about battery drainage, plug it in to charge the battery while you are driving.. and it's completely charged the whole time.
I do that if I am on a long trip. I have never had a problem with PhoneGuard "now" TextonHold.
