I checked Qualcomm's 10-K for FY2000,

in 2000, Qualcomm had revenues of $3B, and 748,425,359 shares outstanding.
It had a market value of $45B.
"The aggregate market value of the voting and non-voting common equity held by non-affiliates of the registrant as of October 31, 2000 was $45,528,642,556"

I was unable to find 1986 valuations,
but as of March 31, 1996, it had only 65,616,859 (65 million) shares outstanding.

So, no, I don't think QCOM had a billion shares outstanding back in '86. Unless you start split-adjusting. And hair splitting.
