Well there you have the difficulty of defining the word "major"

- do we have divisions of Armour attacking the Iraqi army

- are we in a fight with an enemy that hides in civilian clothes and hiding in houses occupied by "innocent" Iraqis

yes

- do they arm Toyotas with stolen artillery shells and force zealots to blow themselves up along with whomever else is in the vicinity

and is that the definition of "major combat operations" to a lib/dem/leftie

Of course major combat operations ended. For months after VE Day, Allied soldiers were taking pot shots from diehard Nazis. In fact, military jeeps had to have a vertical bar installed on the front bumper because it was common for the Nazi remnants to set up steel cables across street in order to behead a GI in his jeep. That sort of thing happened for a long time after major combat operations ended for WWII.
