#79022 RE: thizsukz #79003

Production ready - NOT! ADEQ regulates mining on both public and private lands, and the Azurite Mine would not be exempt from the requirements of the Aquifer Protection Permit (APP) program. GDSM has stated they intend to process existing tailings and dump material first. Guess what.....

The following facilities are considered to be "discharging" and require permits:

Surface impoundments, pits, ponds, and lagoons
Solid waste disposal facilities, except for mining overburden and wall rock that has not been subject to mine leaching operations
Injection wells
Land treatment facilities
Facilities adding pollutants to a salt dome, salt beds, or salt formations, drywells, underground caves, or mines
Mine tailings piles and ponds
Mine leaching operations
Septic tank systems
Underground water storage facilities (if wastewater-effluent is used)
Sewage or wastewater treatment facilities
Wetlands designed and constructed to treat municipal and domestic wastewater for underground storage

Any guesses on how long it typically takes to get an APP for a mine?

Answer - a year or two, sometimes far more. Or never, if they cannot afford to do the engineering or other studies that are required. And by the way, an Arizona-registered engineer must certify the application. Guess that rules out you know who.....
