You are absolutely right some are doing that to accumulate, others are just day trading to milk for small profits daily which add up, and yes they are cutting off their noses to spite their face. This thing will run and some of them will get left at the station no doubt.

I was tempted to do that too :-) sell off then bash the stock to try to get back in at a lower PPS but 50% more shares... damnit!
