BTW, large institutions, funds with huge stock positions, pension funds and the like, engage in securities lending to pick up some income on securities that just sit around in their funds.

Specifically, you want to understand how shares may or may not be borrowed from a RETAIL account, like yours or mine. Focus on the word retail, OK?
