Very fertile soil for a tale is this Isom Dart. Born a slave in the old South, raised by Native Americans (Choctaw, I believe), he heads out to the old west where he works as a cowboy, rancher and expert horseman. He was shot down by a hired killer named Tom Horn so that other ranchers could steal his herd. There is a certain classical sense of tragedy hanging in the air about him. This could be very good stuff.
