Two little guys just started K and first grade with my youngest. They moved here from Israel several months ago. Very cute and well behaved kids. The parents are awesome, awesome people - w/very "American" like values. The husband was born in Israel. The wife moved to Israel when she was very young. She said she couldn't stand the thought of raising her two little guys in that environment. The husband was somewhat reluctant to move to the US but eventually agreed. I can't imagine raising young children in the middle of that either.

They are not "Orthodox" people. I'm assuming they're more secular. She said she was not crazy about Sharon and his tactics either. Many Israeli's are not. She said Sharon is a product of the desperation that Israeli's feel as a result of repeated terror attacks. I think that's reasonable. And I can't imagine living with the threat of terrorism every day, or raising children with that threat.

An argument can be made that both sides are living with desparation. But the truth is the Palestinians are being used as a pawn by Arabs who HATE the thought of a "Jewish" State in the ME. There is no peace because Arabs don't want Israel, and Israeli Jews and Palestinians are simply a victim of this political reality, and hate.

I would love to take my kids to Israel, but not into the chaos. And I'm not subjecting my kids to risk. I don't know if there will ever be a "safe" time to return - in our lifetime? Thoughts??
