Because you randomly changed the topic from me questioning your statement to something completely off topic. If you make a statement as an assertion, rather than an opinion, it is on the table for discussion of it's truthfulness.

It is important to me because if a thread contains information about topic A... and topic B and/or topic C are continually thrown in as bright shiney objects to change the subject, it no longer becomes a topic thread, but schizophrenia.

If you make a statement (not an opinion, but a statement) that is not true or would imply you have specific knowledge (for example, that there will be a PR after the bell) I think it is fair to ask you about it and why you would say such a thing or what information you may have.

To just change the subject to whatever topic you want is leaving your unquestioned statement as a truth... when right now we all know it to be an untruth. IMO at the end of false statements change the nature of those statements.
